Search Engine Optimization (SEO) |
Untitled document
The process of increasing the amount of visitors to a website by achieving a high-ranking position on the search results page of a search engine, like Google. The higher a website ranks, the greater the chance that the site will be visited by a potential customer. Not many people have the patience or desire to scroll through pages of hits, so where a site ranks in a search is vital for directing more traffic toward the site. SEO helps to ensure that a site is easily found by search engines.
For example, I recently went to a restaurant. It was a local establishment with good food. The place was empty. I tried to Google “Restaurant X” using the restaurant type and city. Restaurant X did NOT show up on my search. So anyone looking to go out for dinner in that city would never been given Restaurant X as a choice. I asked if they had a website (they did) and I looked it up. Turns out they had a perfectly nice website, including a menu. But NO ONE would ever find it, because they have NO SEO. Unless someone was to type in the web address or exact name of the restaurant, the site is invisible. Seems like a waste of money, right?
